One year ago, what was your usual address?

How do I answer this question?

Select the option for the address you were living at one year ago from census day. This means the address that was your usual address on 20 March 2021.

For most people, this will be the permanent or family home they were living in one year ago.

Enter details if required. This may include entering a full UK address.

If you select 'Outside the UK' enter the country you were living in one year ago.

I lived at more than one address a year ago. How do I answer?

Enter the address where you spent most of your time.

I had no usual address a year ago. How do I answer?

If you had no usual address one year ago, enter the address where you were staying.

If you were not at an address, enter the name of the town where you were staying. Select ‘Another address in the UK’, start typing, then select ‘my address is not listed’ and enter the name of the town manually.

I was temporarily staying at someone else’s address a year ago. Do I enter this address?

I am answering on paper. I cannot remember all of the address I was staying at a year ago. How do I answer?

If you cannot remember the full UK address, write in as much as you can remember. For example, the postcode, street name and town, or town and county. Do not leave it blank.

I am answering on paper. I have a child who is less than 1 year old. How do I answer for them?

You do not need to answer this question for children under the age of 1.

I am answering on paper. I am not Person 1. How do I answer?

You will see an option “Same as Person 1”. You can tick this answer if you were staying at the same address as Person 1 one year ago. You do not need to fill in the address again.

The address options “The address on the front of this questionnaire” and the “Same as Person 1” might be the same address. It does not matter which box you tick, as long as your answer refers to your address a year ago.

I am answering on paper. I had no usual address a year ago. How should I answer?

If you had no usual address one year ago, write in the address where you were staying.

If you were not at an address, write in the name of the town where you were staying. If you are not sure, answer as best as you can.
